The WINDMILLS program was created by the California Governor’s Committee for Employment of Persons with Disabilities to eliminate the fears, biases and myths which create barriers to hiring and working with persons with disabilities.   This powerful, highly participative program has been used by more than half of the Fortune 500 companies and can be a valuable training resource for you and your company or organization.  This material, often presented in concert with information on the American’s with Disabilities Act (A.D.A.), combines techniques and exercises to substantially enhance your company’s ability to work successfully with persons with disabilities.  Pathfinder Associates has presented more than fifty WINDMILLS training sessions to groups totaling more than 1600 participants.

  • How Can the WINDMILLS program help my company?
    Many companies would like to employ individuals with disabilities, but find that fears, biases, and myths create barriers in the hiring process.  WINDMILLS training provides an honest, open forum for participants to identify and deal with their personal biases.  The training modules used consist of primarily exercises that pertain to the everyday world of work.  Participants can relate to the training and incorporate what they have learned into their jobs.  As a result, participants often become advocates for hiring applicants with disabilities after the training.

The WINDMILLS program is a training course often presented to middle management staff, personnel, and first line supervisors, but is easily adapted and applicable for all staff.  It can be effective with anyone in the public or private sector to help these staff to learn to deal more effectively with persons with disabilities.

PROGRAM DESIGN

This program is specifically designed to be easily portable and is comprised of 11 training modules of approximately one hour in length.  The modules can stand alone or several modules can be combined into a single presentation.  The program is designed so that the modules can also be used to supplement and enhance on-going training programs within the company or agency.  Pathfinder Associates can also customize the program by adding video and power point presentations to further enhance learning.

The WINDMILLS program is upbeat and realistic.  It can be given in blocks of from 2 hours to 6 hours and can be formatted to fit groups of 20, or more, participants.
