Assistive Technology in the Workplace

Assistive technology, reasonable accommodations and old-fashioned problem solving provide consumers, employers and rehabilitation and education professionals with many of the tools and resources needed to level the playing field and enable persons with disabilities to compete fairly for jobs.  These resources will also help to expand options and make consumer choice more than a nice concept.

Workshops geared toward general rehabilitation and educational professionals, including staffs in One-Stop Centers, as well as employers, show how AT and a fresh way of looking at work and individuals who may happen to have a disability, an industrial injury or some functional limitation can really make a difference.

Training Workshops
Assistive technology and worksite accommodations are tools that can help achieve lasting and satisfying employment outcomes for many individuals with all ranges of disability and disabling conditions.  See how the process works by working in small teams that examine real employment situations using case study information from actual work situations in office, production work, or food service occupations.

  • Overview of the job accommodation process

  • Principles of ergonomic and universal design

  • Job analysis and reasonable accommodation approaches

  • Approach accommodations from the perspectives of the person with the disability, employer and rehabilitation professional

  • Participate in actual problem solving activities

  • Learn sources of AT resources and information

The half or full day workshops are designed for 15-25 persons but can be used with smaller or slightly larger groups.  Full day workshops go into more depth and can include problem solving on accommodation needs in your area. Participants come away with a thorough understanding of how to approach situations where accommodations to the workplace may be needed.  Contact us for more information on how to schedule a workshop in your area.
